We are in that stretch of summer where every nightlife venue wonders how they'll make it for the next few weeks. It's dead out there, but we are still here for you in our magic clubhouse. We're making a few of our events FREE this month to encourage you to pop by -- both on the G&S side and our naughtier sister membership community, House of Scorpio. No membership required for events below, either!

As always, full details on upcoming events are below these summaries, including all rules & requirements for attendance. Get your membership and your tickets, and we will see you here soon.

- Fri 8.16 - Fierce! (FREE/by donation, open to non-members) - a free summertime dance party in our powerful AC, for all you wonderful weirdos & queerdos and those who love us.

- Sat 8.17 - Guest event! Bounce House ($15-45, open to all) - Body-abundant burlesque celebration & big fat dance party

- Sun 8.18 - Loft sale (FREE, open to non-members) - We are making room for a new *immersive dining experience* in the Loft...cue reorganization! We need the space and the budget. We've got lights, furniture, props, and so much more. And of course the most fabulous clothes you can ever find secondhand, including a stellar festival selection for Burning Man and beyond. - Wed 8.21 - Sinema Club (FREE/by donation, open to non-members) - our usual curator & host Phil is away, so we're making this one FREE and casual. The movie: The Handmaiden (2016) - a South Korean historical psychological thriller, with a steamy lesbian seduction at its center. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival & won the category of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

- Fri 8.23 - Dark DecaDance ($0-15, open to non-members) - queer-forward goth party - Gothing it up in deep summer! Earlybird tix give you a discount until this Fri.

- Sat 8.24 - Mostly Harmless: An Improbable Experience (FREE/by donation, open to non-members) - a Hitchiker's Guide themed performance & dance party, and birthday celebration for our beloved doorman, Frank. Expect shenanigans.

- Sat 8.31 - Snowing Man ($10-100 sugg donation, open to non-members) - Burn night party! Let the others play in the dust...we'll play in the snow. We'll stream the Man Burn on our giant screen and have bouncy dance music for you. Anything else? All depends on what the community steps up with. We're all ears. We now have a donation link up, so we can build a party budget.

- Thur 8.1 - Taste The Rainbow ($0-10, open to non-members) - all-gender all-orientation mixer. If you're curious about HoS in general, this is the one to check out. Always a mix of members old and new, and social games to get everyone talking to each other.

Abby Fantastic and Lillian Bustle are whipping up another spectacular evening of body-wealthy burlesque, this time with a big beautiful bonus: after the show we’re having a BIG FAT DANCE PARTY with DJ Coastyn! (All bodies welcome, zero tolerance towards hate speech, harassment, and unwanted touch)

It's been a whirlwind two years since we first got the key to our new home, and we need to pause and do some house cleaning.

We're digging in our back corners now, but here's some of what we know will be for sale:
- Clothes! Vintage, designer, costumes, etc -- Miss Scorpio sells statement wear year-round, and she just stocked up some amazing finds for festival season.
- Furniture! You know we love collecting unique pieces, and there's a constant rotation here that leaves us with extra chairs, tables, shelves, etc.
- Lights! From basic xmas lights to retired stage lights, there's always too many
- Fabric & curtains! The secret to how we used to transform empty warehouses into cozy party spaces. We don't do that so much anymore, so up for sale it goes. Perfect for both space transformation and clothes-making, as we have brocades, silks, etc.
- Backdrops! HUGE ones, professionally printed for TV use (cough*SNL*cough)
- Stage platforms! sturdy AF 3x8 that are great for raised seating, stage, shelving, etc, 12 in total. A few sample ones are here, but you'll need separate arrangements to pick up the rest from our storage.
- Props! What will we find stashed in the back? We have no idea. Found so far: snow, water guns, misc decor items.

Plus: a community stoop sale! Want to bring a curated selection of funky secondhand items of your own? Drop us a line to confirm. You’ll need to BYO table or racks to set up, and be there at least an hour before event start. No fees, but donations to keep the loft going are hugely appreciated.

The body's largest sex organ is the brain. Sinema Club stimulates yours with films that are explicitly erotic, homo-romantic, or gender-exploring -- and always thought-provoking. A rousing discussion follows; drinking is encouraged throughout, and mingling happens before, during and after: the bar remains open for socializing, while the film plays in the main space. Plus: free popcorn from our vintage cart. Order dinner in, and make it dinner and a movie.
 
This months screening: The Handmaiden (2016) - a South Korean historical psychological thriller directed, co-written and co-produced by Park Chan-Wook and starring Kim Min-hee, Kim Tae-ri, Ha Jung-woo and Cho Jin-woong. It is inspired by the 2002 novel Fingersmith by Welsh writer Sarah Waters, with the setting changed from Victorian era Britain to Korea under Japanese colonial rule.

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival & won the category of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

Plot: In 1930s Korea, a new girl is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate. But the maid has a secret: She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler, who is posing as a Japanese Count, to help him seduce the Lady and steal her fortune.

Sinema Club is curated and hosted by Phil Guie-Ng (@thatphilguymovies): an inquisitive, ardent longtime film critic who is dying to tell you about movies you haven't heard of yet. As a reviewer at the website Film-Forward, his self-appointed mission was covering documentaries and features about subjects who challenged conventional attitudes about gender, masculinity, and more. When Phil isn't writing about movies, you can find him in Brooklyn taking part in protests on behalf of basic human rights.
 
*Sinema Club happens on the third Wednesday of every month
 
***Plus: House of Scorpio Clubhouse. Whatever your membership level, you are invited to use our space as your own for the night...as your clubhouse. While the ticketed activities will take place on the stage side of the room, the bar and lounge will remain open 7pm-11pm (12am if enough people are lounging). Just like with regular events, if you're Friend level and above, you can bring up to two friends with you. Order in dinner, have a few drinks, run a friendly board game, or just read a book on the comfy couch. This is not a mixer -- just us opening our doors for our members. It's up to you how much you socialize, if at all, and with whom.

She also runs Wire Trap music magazine featuring the best new darkwave and post-punk music and events.

Guest DJ: Chloe D'Cay. She is the producer of Thrills & Chills: Dark Waves & Dangerous Babes, a monthly goth cabaret, and Sunday Mourning Goth Brunch, a daytime dark dance party. She is also the owner of The Unconvention, a recurring multi-day celebration of mutual weirdness and alternative subculture.

We get asked all the time how people can join HoS if they are shy, don't have like-minded friends, lack PALs for play parties, have no idea how this whole thing works, don't feel like jumping into sexy activity but want to connect to open-minded humans, etc. This party is the answer!

Calling all LGBTQIA+, poly, kink, swinger and other "alternative" dating/sex/gender-aligned humans and their allies. We're creating a protected and judgment-free space for connections, conversations, community, games and interactivity. This is the key HoS event open to non-members. Come meet us before you join!

For those of you new to it all: direct introductions to HoS members new and old; facilitated discussions on poly, kink and swinger lifestyles; icebreaker games to welcome you to our club.

For our regulars: a way to ease new friends into our scene; a chance to meet all the new faces you may want to kiss later; a visit with the community even if your PAL is not around.

For everyone: tabletop and social games, both risqué and plain fun; a charming host to make the introductions and explain all things HoS and sex-positive, and a cozy setting for conversations and future kisses. Our main icebreaker game, HoS Guest Bingo, runs from 7:30pm until we have a winner: get to know everyone in the room, and win a drink if you complete your bingo card.

Miss Scorpio is back hosting the mixer! Come ask her directly anything you want to know about this community. We've been building it for you for 10+ years, and hope to be here for 10+ more.
