If you're wondering why you haven't heard from us in a bit: it's a time of huge change and behind-the-scenes work over at our magic Loft. We're in the last stretch (we hope) before getting our new liquor license. This one comes with a full kitchen offering, which means two things: 1) there's a new on-site immersive private dining experience being developed! 2) we have massive expenses coming up this month. We're about 10-20k short of where we need to be, so now more than ever, we need your donations, memberships and ticket purchases!

Memberships are tied to our sister group, House of Scorpio, which continues to host 5-7 LGBTQ+ & allies sex-pos events each month: http://www.houseofscorpio.com -- like the wax play class tomorrow, and the makeout party on Friday. Wax play gets a scary name, but it's actually one of the most approachable kink pathways. Anyone from the most sensorily sensitive to the bold sensory seeker can find a satisfying way to play with wax. Our teacher: Lady Euphoria Sol is a Transformational Lifestyle & Professional Dominatrix, BDSM Educator, Coach and Ritualist. Her work centers inner exploration, shadow work and energetics in pursuit of Euphoria. She is most recently known for her role as former founding headmistress and curator of 7 Days of Domination, a quarterly week-long series of educational kink talks from worldwide BDSM experts.

Bedroom Badass is our series of workshops to take couples and individuals through various steps in opening up their relationships, or in exploring more adventurous sexual experiences. Whether you're a total novice or an old pro, each class has a range of information relevant to all experience levels.

Just like with regular events, if you're Friend level and above, you can bring up to two friends with you. Order in dinner, have a few drinks, run a friendly board game, or just read a book on the comfy couch. This is not a mixer -- just us opening our doors for our members. It's up to you how much you socialize, if at all, and with whom.

G&S Loft sale: it's been a whirlwind two years since we first got the key to our new home, and we need to pause and do some house cleaning.

We're digging in our back corners now, but here's some of what we know will be for sale:

- Clothes! Vintage, designer, costumes, etc -- Miss Scorpio sells statement wear year-round, and she just stocked up some amazing finds for festival season.

- Furniture! You know we love collecting unique pieces, and there's a constant rotation here that leaves us with extra chairs, tables, shelves, etc.

- Lights! From basic xmas lights to retired stage lights, there's always too many.

- Fabric & curtains! The secret to how we used to transform empty warehouses into cozy party spaces. We don't do that so much anymore, so up for sale it goes. Perfect for both space transformation and clothes-making, as we have brocades, silks, etc.

- Backdrops! HUGE ones, professionally printed for TV use (cough*SNL*cough)

- Stage platforms! Sturdy AF 3x8 that are great for raised seating, stage, shelving, etc, 12 in total. A few sample ones are here, but you'll need separate arrangements to pick up the rest from our storage.

- Props! What will we find stashed in the back? We have no idea. Found so far: snow, water guns, misc decor items.

Plus: a community stoop sale! Want to bring a curated selection of funky secondhand items of your own? No need to sign up! No fees, but donations to keep the loft going are hugely appreciated. The only two requirements: 1) BYO shelf, table or racks; 6' max of space pp. There will not be a wall to hang or lean anything on. There will be a seat, though. DO NOT just bring stuff without something to put it on.  2) Be there at 12pm at the latest -- earlier is better & gives you more choice of location.

The body's largest sex organ is the brain. Sinema Club stimulates yours with films that are explicitly erotic, homo-romantic, or gender-exploring -- and always thought-provoking. A rousing discussion follows; drinking is encouraged throughout, and mingling happens before, during and after: the bar remains open for socializing, while the film plays in the main space. Plus: free popcorn from our vintage cart. Order dinner in, and make it dinner and a movie.
 
This months screening: 90s nouveau adult cinema classic, Zazel: The Scent of Love (1997).

It isn’t often that you hear of an adult movie being compared with fine art, but that’s a compliment Zazel has received over and over. It was directed by Philip Mond, whose fashion photography background is a clear influence here (he also did the camera work and designed the costumes and special make-up). The film is famous for its visually elaborate set pieces; extravagant costuming, make-up and body painting; and expensive filming techniques, such as underwater photography.

The plot of Zazel revolves around the titular perfumier as she attempts to craft "the most sensually arousing fragrance ever", but the real stars are the veteran adult film stars and Penthouse models (Sasha Vinni, Gina LaMarca, Nikie St. Gilles) playing mystical creatures who enjoy all kinds of revelry, and Mond’s skilled eye.

Our screening of Zazel: The Scent of Love will be followed by a talkback with James Avalon, who edited the film as well as directed more than 370 credits over the course of his career. Avalon won the 1998 Best Editing AVN award for Zazel (the film also won six other awards, including Best Film).

Sinema Club is curated and hosted by Phil Guie-Ng (@thatphilguymovies): an inquisitive, ardent longtime film critic who is dying to tell you about movies you haven't heard of yet. As a reviewer at the website Film-Forward, his self-appointed mission was covering documentaries and features about subjects who challenged conventional attitudes about gender, masculinity, and more. When Phil isn't writing about movies, you can find him in Brooklyn taking part in protests on behalf of basic human rights.
