Date: April 21st 2017

Hello lovelies,

We have such AMAZING things coming up! Here's what's happening immediately...

  • Fri 4/21, The Cocktail Experiment, our pop-up craft cocktail lounge meets Iron Chef. Featured ingredients and cocktails announced below.

  • Our May the Fourth two-day celebration includes a Star Wars movie screening, Browncoats the Musical, and of course our Cantina at the End of the Universe. Tickets: http://bpt.me/376013 (you do NOT want to miss the Cantina -- it's one of our legendary throw-downs that only happens once a year)

  • Fri & Sat, May 12-13, we're helping out an international visiting event, Sublime Boudoir, that is worthy of your attention: an immersive Victorian evening at Alder Manor, a stunning mansion just outside the city (if you follow us on Insta, you may have seen us post photo of it recently). G&S has a discount code! Tix: http://sublime-boudoir.com - use code GSSB17 for 15% off tickets.

  • Sun, May 14, the return of the first Victorian Garden Tea of the season. It's a perfect Mother's Day brunch substitute. Tix: http://victoriantea.brownpapertickets.com

All event invites & tickets links are just below. Scroll away!

...and save the dates for two big anniversary celebrations: Sat May 20 / Sun May 21 is the 5th anniversary of our magical loft, and Sat June 24 / Sun June 25 is the 15th(!!!) anniversary of G&S. We have big things planned, but first ALL this other goodness that's happening in April & early May.

Cheers,

The Cocktail Experiment

Fri, April 21, 7pm-12am, FREE + FREE drinks if you bring a cocktail ingredient, 21+ (25+ recommended) $6 per experiment / $17 flight of three / cash only Gemini & Scorpio Loft, Gowanus, BK Official site & address RSVP: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/278751209232253 Social media: @gemini_scorpio / #geminiandscorpio

A speakeasy experiment in our magical loft. One kickass bartender, a fully stocked bar, and YOU bringing a liquid challenge: a bottle of something unusual for our pro to turn into a one-of-a-kind cocktail. If your bottle is used in creation of a cocktail, you (and up to three friends) get a complimentary tasting. No two cocktails will be the same, and all will be delicious.

Or, skip the challenge & just enjoy inventive craft cocktails in a better-than-bar atmosphere: a sexy low-lit loft, lots of couches, sprawling roof, chill music, serious skills behind the bar, no attitude.

Featured ingredients (ask us to include these in your cocktails!): - Skinos mastiha Chios, a liqueur seasoned with mastic (resin gathered from the mastic tree) with notes of cucumber, pine, anise & fresh herbs - St Elizabeth allspice dram, a rum-based liqueur flavored with allspice berry, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper - Barrow’s Intense, a dense, spicy, Brooklyn-made ginger liqueur

Featured cocktails: Smokescreen - Vida mezcal, Skinos mastiha Chios, Cherry Heering, lime, home-infused Szechuan peppercorn vodka topper Hot Dram - Black Seal black rum, Ancho Reyes chili liqueur, St Elizabeth allspice dram, Peychaud’s bitters, flamed grapefruit peel Ginger Blossom - New Amsterdam gin, Barrow’s Intense ginger liqueur, Lejay creme de cassis, elderflower syrup, lemon, orange bitters, seltzer topper

About our bartender: Rebecca Leigh Silverman possesses a unique skillset as both a modern craft bartender and historic culinary expert specializing in period hearthside cooking and libations. When not cooking in the past, she's a Brooklyn-based bartender, trying odd old recipes out on her modern day customers and talking about the perfect sazerac. She is on faculty at The Farm Cooking School, teaching hyper-seasonal cocktail making.

We didn't get to do the drunken rooftop light saber battle last year...should we try again?

-->Sat, May 6, 8-10pm Tea Time for Mad Girls Productions presents Browncoats: The Musical

$10 / $20 with tickets to Cantina party Tix: http://bpt.me/376013 FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/1809156699337318

Eight months after the events of Miranda, the Crew of the Serenity is staring into the void of a changing 'verse, wondering how to go forward, and knowing there's no going back. Whispers of rebellion rising up are tempting Mal to throw himself recklessly back into the thick of things, and with the impending birth of Zoe's baby, she is forced to make the impossible choice between her loyalty to Serenity and protecting the last thing she has of Wash. And that's provided they can keep the ship running long enough to reach the next planet!

All proceeds benefit ACLU. Costumes encouraged, but not required -- unless you're staying for the Cantina party.

-->Sat, May 6, 10pm-late Cantina at the End of the Universe

$15 until 4.30 / $20 after and at door, if avail / $10 after 1am FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/204825423352814 Tix: http://bpt.me/376013 Presale recommended: smaller capacity than usual due to giant alien monster puppets

Jedis, Trekkers, Browncoats, Time Lords and Hitchhikers from all corners of the cosmos, follow us to a cantina at the end of the universe to celebrate Star Wars Day, May the Fourth. There will be aesthetically pleasing air pressure waves coming at your eardrums, mad scientist concoctions (no synthahol, we promise), and an eclectic crowd of humanoids, demonoids, arachnoids, cephalopoids, androids, and surprisingly many other alienoids. We won't let any wookies tear your arm off, but don't mention Miranda, or the seemingly harmless 90-pound brunette wandering around barefoot may suddenly opt for some thrilling heroics, and then you're on your own. Dress uniforms encouraged, watch out for the replicants, and don't forget your towel. You can materialize your Tardis right on the dance floor, but we recommend buying your multipass in advance, in case a clone invasion results in massive overcrowding and subsequent destruction of the entire multiverse.

It's an intergalactic creature dance party, with our special guests: alien monster puppet robot-wrestling ensemble BIG NAZO, returning just for this annual event from recent ComiCon and international festival gigs. DJ Illexandra & DJ Stylus provide epically nerdy beats all night, and classic sci-fi visuals play throughout.

Costume required, as always. Think Star Wars, Star Trek, HGTTG, Firefly, Doctor Who, Blade Runner, Martians, robots, aliens, androids, giant spider creatures with tentacle faces, orange-haired hot-pants-wearing supreme beings, intergalactic bounty hunters, true-blue-blooded opera singers, shiny creatures of energy in corporeal form, the time-traveling anti-you.

===+++===+++===+++=== VICTORIAN TEA: 5/14 ===+++===+++===+++===

Gemini and Scorpio

cordially invite you to

The Grand Victorian Garden Tea - Mother's Day edition

Sunday, May 14 (Mother's Day), 4-8pm, $40, all ages, rain or shine at the historical Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden, 421 E 61st St

Info: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/425384277822847 Tix: http://victoriantea.brownpapertickets.com Social media: @gemini_scorpio #geminiandscorpio #gsvictorianball

Join us as we travel back in time to the Victorian Age, to an elegant country resort a short carriage ride away from the hustle and bustle of the city (which at that time extended only as far north as 14th Street). It's a proper turn-of-century tea party, with finger sandwiches, scones and fancies, in a darling garden attached to an impossible Victorian cottage overlooking modern Manhattan. Historical chef Rebecca Leigh Silverman will hand-make delectable treats from antique recipes, and give a small talk about each dish.

The menu (more TBA): Assorted Finger Sandwiches Scones with Clotted Cream & Preserves Battenberg cake Lemon curd tarts

Activities will include: - Victorian garden games, including Game of Graces [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_graces ] and Battledore and Shuttlecock [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battledore_and_shuttlecock ] - Hand-drawn portraits of guests by Anastasios Taso Megaris - Card games, including Flinch, played with an original 1903 deck - DIY amusements from original Victorian books

Dress code: 1800-1910s summer garden party, with all-white, cream and pastel tones encouraged. No modern casual wear, please - though modern cocktail summer attire is easy to accessorize with a nod to Victorian times. Costume inspiration Pinterest board (not ours): http://bit.ly/1WvlVyB - and we have one for our banquet/ball/tea research here: http://bit.ly/29n5fZm

About our venue: Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a 23-acre estate, and converted into the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1826, this stone building sits on land originally owned by Colonel William Stephens Smith, and his wife Abigail Adams Smith, daughter of John Adams. The hotel operated until 1833, at which point the house became the home for three generations of a New York City family.
