Gemini and Scorpio present

Annual G&S Holiday Party and mini Goldmine gift market

Sunday, December 8, 4pm-12am, FREE / donations appreciated
Gemini and Scorpio Loft (must RSVP for Gowanus, BK location):
http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html
FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/899396883790247

Our annual night of giving thanks and going overboard with fancy drinks.

Come chill in our sexy home, bring your sexy date, and enjoy our ridiculous craft cocktails. Roaring fireplace projections, holiday classics lounge soundtrack (someone will likely lose LDB!), and Miss Scorpio herself getting stupid behind the bar, all culminating in a dance party 9-12.

New this year! We're inviting select Goldmine artisans to bring their gift-worthy items to the party 4-9pm. Expect handmade beauty products, oils, candles, accessories and more. Full vendor list TK.

We invite you to wear something festive or cocktail attire...especially vintage-inspired festive cocktail attire. Costumes always welcome, if you're feeling it.

As always, we're making our two specialty cocktails:
- That infamous fluffy New Orleans classic, the Ramos Fizz. It's a rarity to find it on bar menus due to how long it takes to make each one. You certainly won't catch us making it at any other event.
- Coquito, the classic Puerto Rican eggnog style drink: slushie coconut cinnamon goodness.

We're not charging admission for this event, but we'll have a donation jar out. All money goes towards ongoing loft improvements, so please give what you can to make our secret clubhouse even better.

Thank you for your support this and every year! <3

Join us as we travel back in time to the turn of the century, to an elegant country resort a short carriage ride away from the hustle and bustle of the city...which at that time extended only as far north as 14th Street.

We will begin the night with guided tours through the garden and beautifully preserved mansion. At 9pm, we open the doors to a secret candlelit ballroom and invite you to an immersive and historically accurate Victorian Christmas celebration, complete with a fully trimmed tree, hundreds of candles, and a glorious vintage Santa (David Slone).

Entertainment and activities:
- A professional portrait photographer will capture your Santa moment: 7-9pm as a standalone session (no costume required) and then as part of the event 9-11pm
- Throughout the night, Lacy Rose and her Starling Quartet will be performing original songs inspired by turn of the century themes and music, as well as compositions that would have been performed in Salons in the Nineteenth Century
- At 8:45pm and 9:45pm, Lacy will also lead us into Victorian carols
- A full array of traditional Christmas treats, from cookies to plum pudding
- Wassail: the aromatic mulled cider that's been a Yuletide tradition since the Middle Ages
- Victorian parlor and card games played with authentic decks from mid-1800s through early 1900s
- DIY amusements from turn-of-century books
- Take your own photos with our Victorian Santa after the portrait session ends

Dress code:
1800s through 1919 winter, salon, ballroom, formal or military--or as close as you can get with modern formal. Tartans, velvets and furs. Men: tuxes or tails. Ladies: corsets and long gowns. Costume inspiration Pinterest board (not ours): http://bit.ly/1WvlVyB - and ours for #gsvictorianball research: http://bit.ly/29n5fZm

Ticket Levels:
- Santa portrait only, 7-9pm: $25 per solo or group sitting, up to four (five, if with kids). A proper holiday portrait taken by a professional photographer, with our Victorian Santa in front of the trimmed tree. No costume is required for the portrait session. Families are welcome. Photos taken in order of arrival; no entry after 8:30pm.
- Full event and Santa portrait, 8pm entry: $70. Early access to the ballroom and Santa photo session (one person / one sitting), plus the full event. All food and drinks included.
- Full event, 8pm entry: $50. 9pm access to the ballroom for the full event. All food and drinks included. ($45 group tickets available for parties of 5 or more.)
- Partial event, 10:30pm entry: $30. All drinks included.

About our venue:
Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a 23-acre estate, and converted into the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1826, this stone building sits on land originally owned by Colonel William Stephens Smith, and his wife Abigail Adams Smith, daughter of John Adams. The hotel operated until 1833, at which point the house became the home for three generations of a New York City family.

THEATER: The Regime Is Female
http://www.thetanknyc.org/calendar-1/theregimeisfemale2
A sci-fi, stunt-filled, punk play about surveillance states, generational feminism, and love. Ready to see women kick ass? This November, the Regime Is Female will be running for three weeks at the Tank's intimate 56-seat theater in New York City. Audiences will feel right in the thick of it as they're wowed by the stunts and moved by the story. Yes, the actors are performing live action stunts on stage. It's time to see women and non-binary people in power. (Fri-Sun, The Tank, 312 West 36th St, 7pm, $25)

FILM: "Spacedisco One" and "Tales of the Valley of the Wind"
https://withfriends.co/event/2963950/spacedisco_one_damon_packard_20072009
One film is set in a roller-disco rink inside a space station, the film blurs the line between documentary and fiction, satire and farce, the film ricocheting between fragments of scenes, dumping loads of plot between rants about chemtrails and how hard it is to make a movie with no resources from someone who looks to be a parody of Packard himself. The other film is a live-action tribute to Miyazaki made with little to no money, but per usual, what it lacks in budget it more than makes up for in charm and ingenuity. Packard avoids white washing and leans into the no-budget aesthetic, using actual stuffed animals as stand ins for Miyazaki’s creatures. (Fri/Tues, Spectacle Theater, 124 S 3rd St, BK, see site for details, $5)

THEATER: Now Serving: A Guide to Aesthetic Etiquette in Four Courses

ART: Super Funland - Journey Into The The Erotic Carnival
https://www.museumofsex.com/portfolio_page/super-funland
The Museum of Sex explores the sexual origins of the carnival in a combination history and group-art exhibition, SUPER FUNLAND: Journey into the Erotic Carnival. The history gallery takes visitors from the carnival’s ancient bacchanalian origins to its evolution in pre-industrial Europe and the "midway" of the 20th century’s great World’s Fairs, describing how its licentious and permissive subtext has remained intact. The group art show tells this story in thirteen one-of-a-kind commissioned amusements created by an internationally renowned team of artists and designers, bringing themes of sexual carnality, decadence, and joy to a contemporary audience. (thru TBD, Museum of Sex, 233 Fifth Ave, see site for details, $18)

INSTALLATION: 26th Annual Canstruction New York Exhibition
https://bfplny.com/event/canstruction/
Canstruction is an extraordinary, annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. In over 150 cities around the globe, teams of top architecture and engineering professionals participate in contests to create enormous structures built entirely from full cans of food. Leading up to Thanksgiving, these sculptural works go on view and are then dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. (thru 11/21, Brookfield Place Complex, 230 Vesey St, 10am-8pm, FREE but bring at least one can of healthy food to donate to City Harvest)

THEATER: The Catastrophe Club
http://www.thecatastropheclub.com
The new play, The Catastrophe Club, opens tomorrow in the Village. The site-specific production runs for six weeks. Five hundred years in the future, after the floods have receded, the unforeseen super-viruses that released from the Arctic tundra have claimed their victims, and human society has settled into a relatively comfortable, peaceful time, albeit one that is highly controlled by the corporate-technological wizards who shepherded civilization out of the dark ages after the calamity. The world of 2019 or 2020 is painted as being one of utter depravity, privation, and the most base human behavior. In this future, an influential socialite has organized an illegal speakeasy theatrical recreation based on the trash foun d in a bar in what was once called the City of New York, which was discovered during an illegal archaeological dig, preserved somewhat like ancient Pompeii was for us. (Mon/Wed/Fri thru 11/22, Secret Manhattan location, 7pm, $30)

ART: When Artists Enter the Factories
https://www.facebook.com/events/2526328937426105/?event_time_id=2558518880873777
An invitation to explore the segregated, yet inseparable relationship between manufacturing and artmaking. This exhibition is also inspired by a large-scale exhibition, "Terminal New York," held at this same location in 1983. Thirty-six years later, 16 artists bring their work, inviting viewers to partake in a range of material and conceptual actions. (thru 11/22, Brooklyn Army Terminal, 140 58th St, BK, 10am, FREE)

ART: Duke Riley’s Non-Essential Consultants, Inc.
https://pioneerworks.org/exhibitions/duke-riley-non-essential-consultants-inc/
A three-channel video installation combines narrative and documentary filmmaking to portray an allegorical history implicating a duo of outlaw operatives responsible for a bed bug outbreak in Washington, DC. The video revolves around a single sculptural element: a vintage 21 x 15 inch Samsonite suitcase, which has been retrofitted with an arrangement of scientific machinery and medical equipment used for drawing blood and breeding bed bugs. The suitcase’s breeding chamber, which will be empty during the exhibition, doubles as a diorama of a luxury hotel room within which the narrative is set.
