Hello lovelies,

The very first treat boxes from our tiny immersive COVID-safe speakeasy have started making their way to their recipients. We'd love to see them in the wild! Please share pics to our #PlumBlossomParlor tag on Insta, if you're so inclined. And if you'd like to order a taste for yourself or a friend, drop us a line. We do some pretty fancy gift wrapping options, too.

We're just about booked for upcoming Fridays and Saturdays in-person experiences, but there's room on Thursdays and Sundays. And here's that amazing article from last month, if you'd like a sneak peek: http://bit.ly/PBP_peek

A COVID-safe immersive cocktail experience in a lovingly crafted jewel box speakeasy. Plum Blossom Parlor is a luscious indoor "garden" lodge, inspired by The Emperor's Garden -- a corner of Forbidden City palace complex in Beijing that was untouched for about 100 years & was being painstakingly restored for the last 15, to open in...2020. Our installation is just a tiny bit of love from Brooklyn to China, at a time when the world couldn't be more split apart.

The Parlor is designed for COVID pods of up to eight people (two minimum) and runs entirely unstaffed -- which means masks are not required once you're checked in. Handcrafted libations are pre-bottled & ready to enjoy on the spot or at home. A mini couch folds out, if you're booking for date night makeouts & pod cuddle puddles. Snack options are available by advance request. Simply book your time window & enjoy (book back-to-back slots to extend your time). You can also book the room for meetings, birthday parties, shoots, Zoom events, etc...absolutely anything, as long as no more than eight people are inside at any one time.

Please see our site for more info and reservations and drop a line for any custom arrangements.

PUPPETS: PACKRAT
https://www.amphibianstage.com/shows/packrat
Set deep in the Sagebrush Desert, PACKRAT is a visually stunning puppet-forward play that contemplates humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Puppetry, projections and an original score elegantly come together to create many layers of meaning and emotions. At the center of the action is Bud, a peculiar rodent with a penchant for hoarding humankind’s goods. When a discarded cigar sparks a wildfire, the animals in Bud’s valley flee for their lives. Already an outcast among the desert animals for his hoarding instincts, he gets blamed for the human-made disasters infiltrating their lives. When they ban him from the community, Bud must set out alone amidst a raging fire, to confront human-made dangers and a few natural ones. PACKRAT is a poignant account of Bud’s journey to find his place in the world, and his ultimate realization that the interconnectedness of life rules the day. This is a screening of a previously recorded live production. (Fri/Sat 9pm, Vimeo, $?)

WORD: The Tale of Sea Shanties
https://www.facebook.com/events/487415482267079
http://www.crowdcast.io/e/shanties
Get ready to climb aboard the latest pop-culture craze, the singing of sea shanties, with a newfound understanding of the rich history of songs sung by working sailors. Your captain on this scholarly voyage will be Jessica Floyd, an associate professor of English at the Community College of Baltimore County who has extensively researched and analyzed sea shanties, especially those sung during the period from 1500 to 1860. She’ll discuss their history, what they tell us about relations aboard ships and the culture of the time when they were sung, and how they’re fascinating cultural objects through which we can encounter sensations of frustration, longing, and desire. She’d describe how authentic shanties were a genre unique to the merchant sailing man during the Great Age of Sail, and she’ll teach us how to differentiate shanties from drinking songs and pirate tunes. Finally, she’ll examine why shanties are experiencing such a resurgence now, against the backdrop that is the COVID-19 pandemic. (7pm, $?)
