Hello lovelies,

ICYMI last week: we are starting to consider reopening in some form. We don't yet know what that's going to look like, but we do know we need to make room, as Miss Scorpio pivoted to fashion resale in lockdown, and the Loft looks like a well-curated-but-slightly-mad clothing emporium. Help us get back to normal this Sunday by raiding her racks for her 20+ year collection of vintage, statement, designer & costume pieces. (If you've seen some of it before: multiple racks have been added!) Brunch and bubbly included in the invite, as well.

Throughout the day, we'll be doing by-request tiny tours of our COVID pod pop-up, Plum Blossom Parlor (ask Miss S directly). Pre-bottled drinks from the Parlor will be available for purchase, as well. You could also book your slot there for the same day or anytime it's running: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html

More info below. If you can't make it on Sunday, you can always make your own appointment to come browse the racks anytime. About a third of what we have here has been listed online, and more items are added to the listings all the time: https://linktr.ee/miss_scorpio_fashion

Miss Scorpio

invites you to

Raid my racks!

Sun Apr 25, 1-6pm, early bird 12-1pm

G&S/HoS have been on lockdown with the rest of NYC for over a year, but it's time to start considering reopening. We don't yet know what that's going to look like, but we do know we need to make room, as Miss Scorpio pivoted to fashion resale in lockdown, and the Loft looks like a well-curated-but-slightly-mad clothing shop. Help us get back to normal by raiding her racks for her 20+ year collection of vintage, statement, designer & costume pieces. (If you've seen some of it before: multiple racks have been added!)

We're whipping up a breakfast taco buffet bar, including homemade chorizo & vegetarian options, and stocking up on bubbly and bloody marys.

Here's our COVID-safe plan for the day:
12-1pm: be the first to raid the racks! Your $10 ticket includes early access & a glass of bubbly (post-1pm brunch optional).
1-3pm: brunch time! Your $20 ticket includes a breakfast taco buffet & a glass of bubbly. You will need proof of vaccine to eat indoors, or enjoy your meal on our roof. Shopping access throughout.
1-6pm: raid the racks! Your $5 ticket includes a glass of bubbly.

You must purchase an advance ticket for a specific time slot to attend, as we will be limiting access to keep to 25% capacity at all times. We're also collecting contact information for all guests in case it's needed for contact tracing in an unlikely case of infection. Masks are required indoors when not seated and eating/drinking. All G&S staff have been vaccinated.

ONGOING
===+++===+++===+++===

PARTICIPATORY: Mail Art in April
https://www.instagram.com/mailartinapril
https://www.facebook.com/MailArtInApril
A campaign is underway to get people to connect off-screen, and support the USPS by sending something creative through the nation's mail service. The idea is simple: Make or find a thing for somebody; Include a thanks to the USPS on the outside; Post a pic to FB/IG #MailArtInApril; Send it. Modern mail art is considered to have begun in the 1960's with artist Ray Johnson and the New York Correspondence School. The practice was reinvigorated in the 1980's by E.F. Higgins III, who is now the best-known living mail artist. And boy is he funny. Humor tends to be a big part of mail art -- just read about all the potatoes sent via the US mail. This is an experiment to see if we can create a new tradition, one that reminds us that culture is about how we interact with each other, more than about what we watch together. (Thru 4/30, see site for details, FREE/postage cost)

THEATER: Taxilandia
https://www.taxilandia.com
TAXILANDIA, created and written by Oye Group’s Modesto Flako Jimenez, immerses its audience in the flavors, sounds, sights and dynamic history of a neighborhood confronting social stigmas and the realities of gentrification. Weaving a dramatic, performative ‘tapestry’ that interconnects generations, social classes, races and cultures, TAXILANDIA complicates our notion of what it means to be a local, an immigrant or a resident of a place, challenging us to answer: “What is my personal roadmap of home?” Originally developed in Flako’s own neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn, the piece was inspired and drawn from his nine years driving a taxicab and his documentation of conversations with passengers, residents, locals, and immigrants to the neighborhood. TAXILANDIA is available via a $25 ticket lottery for a single pod of up to three people become passengers in Flako’s cab for a personal experience of Bushwick. Also available as self-guided text-based walking tour. (thru 4/30, see site for details, $25)

THEATER: Performance for One
http://www.untitledtheater.com/previous-productions/performance-for-one.html

What happens to a memory that two people share after one of those people is gone? With a rotating cast of actors, including Elizabeth Chappel, Joshua Coleman, Andrea Gallo, Jan Leslie Harding, Allison Hiroto, Yvonne Roen, and Melissa Rakiro. (Skype, see site for details, FREE)
