A surreal live-music-driven dance party. Dirty electronics and live musicians (horns, drums, human beat box), regurgitating old genres like early ska, early hip-hop, techno and house and playing it raw, glitchy and original. With: experimental circus composer Sxip Shirey (backed by Raya Brass Band rhythm section & trumpet), controllerism glitch rocker Moldover> handmade contraption orchestra Electric Junkyard Gamelan, eclectic beats wizard DJ Shakey, international rhythm wrangler DJ Barney Iller. Janky visuals by Sebastian Patane Masuelli. Live custom silkscreen prints by Printaholics Crew - bring fabric items to print (clothing, bags, etc).

More on our artists:

Curious objects and impossible sounds: Sxip Shirey

Sxip Shirey is a real life circus composer and maestro of Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, The Daredevil Opera Company & gypsy punk ensemble Luminescent Orchestrii. "Haunting" - The New York Times (2008). "Sxip conjures a world of infernal calliopes and cotton candy machetes wielded by Gypsy crones with angel feet" - SF Weekly. "Compelling...ominous original music" - The New York Times (2009). JANK is Sxip's unique take on dance music, originally premiered at the G&S' 2009 Masquerade Macabre Halloween party.

Handmade contraption orchestra: Electric Junkyard Gamelan

Original funky grooves on invented instruments. An otherworldly psychedelic fusion of hypnotizing melodies, syncopated strings, funky bass lines and layers of interlocking beats played on Terry Dame's original musical contraptions such as the Kachapitar, Clayrimba, Rubarp and an arsenal of percussion instruments fashioned from everyday junk. "transporting...beautiful and inspired sounds" -- Village Voice. "...rhythmic, near-hypnotic music." -- HX Magazine. "Music that is the product of a highly personal vision, and Dame's originality is alone enough reason to come check out the Big Barp in person. -- Valley Advocate.

Glitch-tech controllerism: Moldover

Grabbing pop culture by the balls, live mashup artist Moldover twists classic tunes into fresh new, party rockin' jams, completely on the fly. Using his custom software mixing system and Frankensteined computer controller, he brings the art of the DJ to a whole other level. Moldover is creator of the Warper Party (NYC's biggest live-electronic music showcase), The Octamasher (an interactive music installation), and Controllerism.com.

"Literally throwing away the rule-book and reinventing the wheel" - Remix Magazine. "People went nuts" - BigShot Magazine. "An encyclopedia of modern pop culture in sound format, the milestone of ultimate digitally-assisted live performance, the best example of how to use modern technologies to enhance and extend musicianship and artistic vision" - Chain DLK

Eclectic beats: DJ Shakey

DJ Shakey, aka Julie Covello, has been a professional nightclub / mobile disc jockey / wedding dj for over 14 years. She is also a record collector, music consultant, and veteran of the music video industry. She specializes in diverse music, music in media, dance parties, and special concepts. Her music collection includes over 9000 vinyl recordings and cds. She is a party co-ordinator, promoter, experienced host, and has performed on radio, internet, and television broadcasts.

Eclectic beats: DJ Barney Iller

DJ Barney Iller is a stylistic jack-of-all-trades...and master of most! This "ridiculous collectro" flows flawlessly through Bmore beats, tropical bass, dubstep, jungle, showtunes, classic rock and hip hop, for a seriously effective, ultra party combo move. "Barney Iller has been makin peeps do dances they've never done before for many many years now...his sense of humor only serves to reinforce his sense of how to make you dance like you're feelin the holy spirit." - Whomptronica.

Janky visuals: Sebastian Patane Masuelli

Video installation artist Sebastian Patane Masuelli will be heating up pixels, regaling the crowd with VJ sets of vintage splendour -- think turn-of-the-century special effects pioneer George Méliès, original exotic + erotic film masters Pathé Frères, Futura from Metropolis doing battle with Edison's Serpentine, pencil tests for Little Nemo -- a cast of thousands from 1894 till 1929.
