10.26.13: Fifth Annual Masquerade Macabre Halloween Party
Grand Harmony Palace, 98 Mott St just above Canal St | Event on Facebook | Twitter: #MasqMacabre
A marvellous and mysterious event...a Halloween celebration of the extravagant and the grotesque...an all-night spectacle of atmosphere, costumery and diverse entertainments...an explosion of live music, dancing, circus arts, fire and late-night revelry, snake-charmed into an absinthe-fueled early-morning speakeasy.
Featuring: back from a hit season of LIMBO at London's South Bank Center, circus composer Sxip Shirey with beatboxer Adam Matta and other special guests (his only NYC show!). Mind-blowing hip-hop brass band Pitchblak. Early start by G&S favorites Hungry March Band. Dark burlesque by Kat Mon Dieu and Jo Boobs. Living dead opera singer Katie Kat. Hosted by twisted maniac Zeroboy as Baron von Doom. Demonic dance floor by DJs Joro Boro & Reaganomics.
Exciting diversions: Fantastical face & body painting by Painteresse Elyzabeth. Frighteningly accurate fortunes told by practitioners of the occult arts. Scary and exhilarating vacuum-packing experience by Monsieurpolo. Absinthe and other mind-altering potions by The House of St Eve (yes, t.h.o.s.e. cocktails!). Cheap drink specials all night with crazy maple pecan bourbon William Wolf.
Costumes required. Inspiration: macabre carnival, aberrations of nature, cabinet of curiosities, dark Victoriana, evil funhouse, steampunk, Jan Svankmaier & Brothers Quay films, Freaks, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Think dark & creepy.
